Faced with border issues, it has become imperative for African countries to pool their resources and actions with a view to securing and sustainably developing their border areas. To this end, on the initiative of the Secrétariat Exécutif de la Commission Nationale des Frontières de la Côte d’Ivoire (SE-CNFCI), the Abidjan Border Forum is designed as an innovative platform that will offers every two years, opportunities for exchange and interaction between state, non-state, national and international border stakeholders.
The first edition of the ABF, held from October 18 to 20, 2022 in Abidjan-Plateau, provided an opportunity to reflect on the links between “borders and collective security in Africa”.
Chaired by the Prime Minister, ABF 2022 brought together various border stakeholders from the African Union (AU), sub-regional organizations, technical and financial partners (TFPs), organizations in charge of borders, scientists, practitioners and researchers from Africa and Europe. Participants were unanimous in recommending that States give priority to diplomacy and negotiation in settling border disputes, and that they strengthen the participation of women and young people in mechanisms for preserving a climate of peace in border areas.

The Abidjan Border Forum is an international platform designed to promote understanding of the challenges of border governance and the issues faced by the people who live there. It is implemented by the CNFCI on behalf of CÔTE D’IVOIRE.
